Our Story

Antonio’s Bar & Grill is housed in a former Earl of Derby Estate Cottage. After serving as accomodation for an Estate worker, it became an inn and then, when the current Knowsley Village was built, a newsagents.

We are located in the historic village of Knowsley, which features in the Domesday book of 1086 as Chenulveslei and went through several variations before becoming Knouslegh in 1346. The rich heritage of our location adds an extra layer of charm and intrigue to the dining experience we offer.

The village of Knowsley was built by the Lathom/Stanley family, the Earls of Derby, from their vast estate and residence at Knowsley Hall nearby.

Notable visitors include King Henry VII in 1589, King George V in 1913 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1954. Shakespeare is said to have performed here in 1589.

In 1974, Knowsley gave its name to, and became part of, the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley when 3 urban districts and 6 civil parishes combined.
